Advanced Technique: Aranha OmoPlata

The Advanced technique featured this month highlights a detail within the Omoplata technique. In this situation, I assume you know the Omoplata shoulder lock and most of the details that a beginner/Intermediate student should already know. This is not about setting the actual move up; it is about how to improve the lock once you achieve the position. [Read More]

Check out the reviews of past seminars:

  • The seminar was awesome. The techniques taught make you feel like you have totally been doing your escapes wrong. Micheal Jen takes a move that you think you might know, and has you change the tiniest detail of a hand or foot position so that suddenly you feel 10 times stronger. We should have seminars once a month. Or even once a week...hell, everyday. Every Single Day. - Chris 'Shag' Lavine (Blue Belt)
  • All the techniques were totally sweet. that's what i like about these seminars. i find myself using high percentage of what i've learned when i train. - Pat Maloney (Blue Belt)
  • The seminar was outstanding! Michael's pin escapes were amazing, and Aranha showed some nice tricks from De La Riva. A great time was had by all, can'twait for the next one. - Brian McLaughlin (4Stripe Blue Belt)
  • I think I speak for everyone when I say that yesterday's seminar was a great time! Excellent instruction and learned some very useful details. Wanted to extend a special thanks to Aranha for organizing and hosting the seminar as well as all of his hospitality the entire weekend. Would also like to say thanks to Michael Jen for coming all the way out from sunny and warm California and also for the additional instruction in class on Thursday. - Buck Eskew (White Belt)
  • It was good to put faces with names also great learning experience (aikido people dont like the ground much). Once I found the circular motions it made sense looking forward to the next one and possibly getting there sooner. Thanks to Aranha, Michael as well as MYMAG students for hospitality as well as the lack of attitude towards an outsider class act people thanks! - Aiki

Kumite Classic Entertainment and Mancino Manufacturing Co., Inc., present the
Kumite Classic BJJ & Submission Grappling Tournament
on Saturday, April 26, 2003, at the Hempfield Area High School in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Conveniently located near the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Route 136, West Newton Road, the High School offers 2 gymnasiums to host the tournament as part of a weekend full of martial arts competition.

It didn't take promoter Bill Viola, Jr., long to recognize the following of submission grappling and the necessity to introduce it into his western Pennsylvania martial arts event "to say they have been starving for a local grappling tournament would be by far an understatement," said one insider.

Expected to be the largest grappling event ever held in Pennsylvania, preregistration is now open and interest has already been seen from individuals and academies in IL, IN, MD, NJ, NY, PA, WA and WV. "The people where already there, they just needed the event," said Brad Souders of Total Martial Training in central Pennsylvania. Preregistration is just $35.00, and includes the ability to compete in both Gi and No-Gi divisions. Preregistration closes on April 18.

Both Gi and No-Gi Divisions will be developed for Men, Women, Children, Teen and Executive, with skill levels of Novice, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced for No-Gi and Belt Rankings of white, blue, purple, brown and black for Gi Divisions. Age and weight will divide the Children and Teen Divisions, while Women and Executive Divisions will be divided by weight alone. To assure fairness, competitors will only be allowed to compete at their skill level. Individual medals and Team trophies will be awarded.

Doors open on Saturday at 8:00AM, with Registration and Weigh-In beginning immediately in the Foyer. The Rules Meeting is at 8:30AM at the Head Table and the Tournament Begins at 9:00AM in the Auxiliary Gym.

The host hotel is the Holiday Inn Irwin, with the Wingate Inn and the Holiday Inn Delmont offered as over flow. Contact the Holiday Inn at 1-800-HOLIDAY and the Wingate Inn at 1-800-228-1000.

Kumite International, a 501c.3 Non-Profit Foundation, sanctions the event. For more information, check out www.1-Kumite.com.
