What is an Accredited Academy?

The accredited academy listings is a service provided by JIU-JITSU.NET to ensure the quality of our listings section. Those who wish to apply for an accredited listing must provide us with information that will verify they are a Black Belt Instructor, certified by a well known association of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu to teach and give rank.

What is required to become accredited?

Obviously, if your name is Gracie or you are a well known world champion, the staff at JIU-JITSU.NET won't be making any phone calls to your instructor to verify your legitimacy. If you are not a well known instructor, the criteria for an accredited listing is as follows:

  • In order to receive Accredited Academy status, you must hold the Rank of Black Belt or above in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

  • Your School's Black Belt Instructor must be registered with one of the following Federations: IBJJF or Sub-Federations: Confederação Brasileira de Jiu-jitsu (Brazil), United States Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Federation or the Federação de Jiu-Jitsu do Estado do Rio de Janeiro.

  • The person Listed as the Black Belt instructor must be present and teaching at the listed academy on a weekly basis.
If you do not fit the criteria previously described, please list your school in the non-accredited academies section.

We are not saying that the instruction in an academy listed outside our accredited academies section is not good, but we cannot say for sure that it is either. In a world of many fraudulent instructors, we are doing this to protect the interests of those who have given their blood sweat and tears on the mat.
